DESCRIPTION:Peace, Truth & Justice Poetry Slam!\nIn alignment with the 19th Annual MLK peace walk and parade, this event invites poets to compete with powerful poems centered around the themes of peace, truth, and justice.Prepare to be moved as talented wordsmiths take the stage to share their perspectives and insights on these important subjects. This poetry slam is not only a celebration of artistic expression but also a meaningful contribution to the commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the transformative power of poetry and join us in honoring the principles of peace, truth, and justice.\nA poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poets’ content and performance.\nThis is an opportunity for poetry lovers to enjoy the competitive art of late-night performance poetry!\nEnjoy two rounds of high intensity poetry, with the audience choosing a winner.\n$5.00 + Tax and fees online. $8.00 (tax and fees included) at the door !\n1st Place Winner Takes ALL – $150\nThe Rules:\n\n\nSlammers must arrive 30 minutes prior to the show. We will randomly select the order of the slam through a draw.\n\n\nEach poem must be of the poet’s own construction.\n\n\nEach poet gets 3 minutes 30 second (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem; if the poet goes over, points will be deducted from the total score.\n\n\nA poet’s time begins as soon as they say anything on stage or engage the audience in any way.\n\n\nThe poet may NOT use props, costumes, or musical instruments. This includes the removal of clothing.\n\n\nThe poem can only be performed by one person.\n\n\nPoets ARE allowed to read from paper and electronic devices such as laptops or cell phones. With topics ranging from love and relationships to depression and verbal abuse, her writing style is easy going and a reflection of her world.\nSimply Sherri has spotlighted and featured in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington and Atlanta. In 2010 she released her debut poetry CD Liquefy. She released her first book “Love Simply” in 2015.
