Ashley Kearney, a ninth-year teacher in the District of Columbia, currently teaches mathematics all males of color at Ron Brown College Preparatory HS. While there, she’s championed experiential learning through STEM partnerships and supported student leadership with citywide community organizing campaigns relating to transportation and mental health issues. Ms. Kearney believes education liberation requires collective work and responsibility. Her pedagogy aims to affirm students’ identity and acknowledge their brilliance. Ashley’s leadership has developed nearly 100 mathematics teachers in Washington, D.C., and throughout the northeast region. Her community leadership has also helped to shape policy for better educational outcomes for students and teachers in the DC Public Schools. She was recently named 2019 Presidential Awardee for mathematics teaching and 2020 Standing Ovation DC Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Ashley earned her M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction for secondary mathematics education from Johns Hopkins University.
