Diane Groomes currently is employed as the Director of Security and Public Safety, for the District Wharf- SW Waterfront. She joined the District Wharf after serving 27 years with the Metropolitan Police Department – Washington DC. Ten of those years were as the Assistant Chief of Patrol Services; whereas she led field operations for all seven of the patrol districts, school safety division, special liaison division and community outreach for the Department.
During her tenure with the Metropolitan Police Department; she built and maintained vast community relationships throughout the entire city and supported vast youth work. She built strong partnerships and collaborations with numerous DC Agencies and various community organizations to improve the lives of those that lived, worked and visited Washington DC.
Prior to serving on the Metropolitan Police Department; Diane was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and she also obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She supported herself through college by waitressing and working at the University’s newspaper doing editorial work. She pledged the Delta Gamma Fraternity in her freshman year and remains an active alumni member.
Diane enjoys travelling across the world, visiting her future retirement home in Florida, hosting theme parties, bargain shopping, and has a passion for music and enjoys being an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
